The Dallas Running Club Half Marathon, Sunday, Nov. 3, will begin a half-hour earlier this year than in years past, organizers say.  No worries, runners, because there’s an extra hour of sleep the previous night — clocks fall back.

“This year, we decided to do something a little different,” DRC reps explain. “See, the race is in Texas, land of unpredictable weather. You could wake up at 6 and it’s 45 degrees outside, only to find that it’s 75 and humid by 8 (when the race starts).”

And for runners, especially over longer distances, cooler temps mean better performances.

Therefore, the half marathon (13.1 miles), Sunday, Nov. 3 will start at 7:30 a.m., at Norbuck Park. The 5k will start at 7:40 a.m.

Organizers also have announced a medal series for race finishers featuring iconic White Rock Lake scenes passed by DRC Half runners on the race route. That means each of the next six or so years, finishers of the DRC half will receive a medal in the series. This year’s medal features the Pump House. Commuters, the DRC Half doesn’t result in a lot of road closures, however the Buckner on ramp that runs alongside Norbuck Park will be shut down for a while, as will a portion of Peavy near Van Dyke. The race occupies some Lakewood streets and much of the White Rock Lake loop trail. Parking is mostly at Flagpole Hill. Here’s the full map. Usually this all wraps up at about noon.

You can still register online — cost goes up Nov. 1. Or sign up to volunteer at a water stop or as a course assistant. The race benefits the Tal Mosrrison Scholarship Fund and For the Love of the Lake.
