What are we doing about crime in the neighborhood? It’s a FAQ around here. Folks such as Lake Highlands North residents John and Jeanne Gould—founding members of their neighborhood’s crime watch group—will tell you that robust participation in crime watch efforts means lower crime stats (the couple is featured in our November story about longevity).

Participating in the annual Northeast division Chief on the Beat Kids Health and Safety Fair is a good way to contribute to safer streets, businesses and property, says Bervin Smith, neighborhood cop. Plus, he says, they really could use the help.

Events such as this are very successful in the Northeast division, but only with continued support from neighborhood residents, Smith notes.

At this juncture, Smith says police need help delivering fliers to local businesses to help promote the upcoming event.

He notes,  the dates to deliver the fliers are below:

Wed., Nov. 6 – 9:45 a.m.-noon

Fri., Nov. 8 – 9:45 a.m.-noon

Wed., Nov. 13— 9:45 a.m.-noon

Meet at the Harry Stone Recreational Center, 2403 Millmar on each day.

Those interested in helping out should notify Officer Bervin Smith at Bervin.smith@dpd.ci.dallas.tx.us or 214.202.6255.
