Update: This morning, the Big 12 Conference announced its choice of Desmond Roland as Offensive Player of the Week. He’s the only Big 12 player this year to earn 200 rushing yards in one game. Congratulations, Desmond!
Former Wildcats Desmond Roland, Jason Dann and Ricky Zorn had big days yesterday. The college football players had starring roles in important games for their teams, to the delight of big stadium crowds.
D-Ro, as we called him in his playing days at The Boneyard, earned 219 yards and four touchdowns in Oklahoma State’s 58-27 victory over Iowa State. Though he’s scored two other touchdowns this season, averaged more than 50 yards per game and played in all 7 games this year, it was the junior’s first college start.
“I can’t even explain,” Desmond told Gina Mizell, an OSU student reporter. “I’ve been waiting on this opportunity for a long time now. I just knew when my name was called, I had to show them that I was worth playing, was worth starting. And I feel like I did that today.”

Jason Dann’s team celebrates, KTSW 89.9
Jason, who graduated from LHHS in 2010, kicked four field goals in Texas State’s homecoming win over South Alabama. After the Bobcats fell behind with 1:32 to go, Jason hit a 41-yard stunner with 4 seconds remaining.
“That’s the stuff you go to bed at night and dream about,” Jason told Ishmael Johnson for an article on KTSW, the school’s radio station. “Just to have the chance to do that was amazing.”

Ricky Zorn, by Gil Talbot, Gocrimson.com
Ricky Zorn, former quarterback for the Cats, now plays wide receiver for Harvard and put up 168 yards for the Crimson. Despite several acrobatic grabs and a touchdown in the first half, Ricky couldn’t pull his team past even, and the game ended regulation play at 35-all. At the end of 3 overtimes, Princeton beat the undefeated Harvard, 51-48.

Next week, Desmond takes his 6-1 Cowboys to Lubbock to play the ultra-cool Kliff Kingsbury and his 6-1 Texas Tech Red Raiders at 6 p.m. Jason will head to Idaho to play the Vandals at 4. Harvard will host Dartmouth at 5 p.m. Go Cats!
