Lake Highlands based Nathan Grace Real Estate Thursday was awarded no. 5 on the Dallas Business Journal’s “Best Places to Work in D/FW” list. “Fifty seven companies were selected for the list out of more than 370 companies that applied,” notes the Journal. “After a survey process with industry partner Quantum Workplace, the rankings were determined and finalists were announced earlier this summer.”

I’ve never worked for Nathan Grace, so I can’t speak to that, however, I often have noticed how very inviting the Lake Highlands office looks in the wee morning hours.

I mean, just look at that sleek yet comfy décor. In the pre dawn, the building looks like some sort of well-decorated, strategically lit, concrete-enveloped island. If only they’d let me in for a cup of coffee…

One less accused child abuser is off the street. Or, make that was off the street. Wesley Garth, 21, of Lake Highlands reportedly is suspected of “popping” his toddler. While the exact definition of “popping” is uncertain, the variety Garth allegedly inflicted on his son left bruises consistent with “repeated blunt forces,” a doctor noted in an assessment. As of Wednesday, Garth is out on bail.

On a brighter note, editor Keri Mitchell Monday curated news from around the city and country about White Rock’s new children’s garden at the Dallas Arboretum. The Philadelphia Inquirer also ran a piece. My personal fave was the one that ran in the LA Times and Chicago Tribune, which noted Dallas’ big-money, big-ego, big-hair reputation and suggested that White Rock Lake is where the city “reveals its quirky side.”

A few months ago, stories began circulating about CrossFit members being hospitalized. One tipster knew three people who had been hospitalized after workouts, sustaining potential liver and kidney damage. The diagnosis in all of the rumored cases: rhabdomyolysis.

I joked, “The cross-fitters probably just think it’s not a proper workout unless you wind up in the ER (because, they are tough, ya know?).”  Well, turns out rhabdo is sort-a an inside joke/ point of pride among certain CrossFit members. But it ain’t no joke, as this Huffington Post post explains. It can be fatal. Having met several of the LH CrossFit coaches, I assume they take safety seriously, but in order to protect oneself from potential iron-pumping problems, the article is worth a read.
