The fifth annual White Rock Local Market Fall Pie Contest is set for Saturday, Oct. 19 at Lakeside Baptist Church on Garland Road. Contestants provide samples at a public tasting starting at 10:30 a.m. (Here! Here! Tasting volunteer).

Categories include fruit, nut, chocolate cream/custard, savory and youth.

“Pie crusts and fillings must be homemade,” organizers stipulate. “Winners in each category will receive White Rock Local Market memberships and gift certificates to the market.”

Entry fee is $10. Each contestant must provide two pies. Registration deadline is Oct. 16.  Register at whiterocklocalmarket.org or email info@whiterocklocalmarket.com.  Tasting tickets will be $5 at the WRLM Information Desk.

Proceeds from this event will benefit programs offered by WRLM including Love Your Farmer volunteer days, Sprouting Healthy Kids — a hands-on gardening and nutrition after school program — and White Rock Local Garden.

This coming Saturday Oct. 5 is designated Free Pie Day at White Rock Local Market (Lakeside Baptist Church location).  Past pie-contest winners Claire Callop and Terry Reed will pass out free slices of winning pie from 10 a.m.  –noon.
