A graduate of North Dallas High School, where she was an active alumni member, Pinkham attended Sam Houston then SMU grad school before her first teaching job at Thomas Jefferson in Dallas ISD.

Many Lake Highlands long-timers knew her as a teacher at Lake Highlands Junior High. She later became principal at Forest Ridge Elementary in RISD.

After retirement she served as the coordinator for the Regional Academic Decathlon for 10 years.

As noted in her obituary, “Kay was well known and loved throughout Dallas and Richardson where her endless volunteering and organizing skills at numerous many civic organizations were so evident. Kay was on the Board of the Richardson Symphony Orchestra, the Richardson Symphony League, and the Richardson Boys & Girls Club … chaired Chamberlain Performing Arts Gala … on the Planning committee for Richardson Medical Center Galas … member of the Richardson Central Rotary Club and Richardson Rotary Club … organized the Silent Auctions for the Dallas Margarita Society and the Dallas Children’s Charities … was on several boards of the Town Creek Home Owners Association … active member of the American Institute of Wine and Food, DFW (for whom) she chaired the Caesar Salad Competition two years and chaired the Silent Auction for several years, was on the Program Committee, and was well known by chefs throughout the restaurant industry in Dallas.”

Pinkham also co-founded the women’s group, Patio Princesses — they offer a tribute to Pinkham on the website.
