The Northeast Police division will host a fundraising lunch featuring cheap meaty tacos, sides and dessert, and the neighborhood is invited. The event will support a department staffer in need of medical treatment that she cannot afford. It all happens Friday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the station at 9915 Northwest.

“Margarita L. Banuelos has faithfully served the officers at the Northeast Division for the last seven years with a warm and caring spirit come rain, sleet or snow,” a memo to the neighborhood reads. “In turn, her efforts have allowed the officers to serve the citizens of this community. Due to insufficient medical benefits, Margarita will be moving to Mexico to have knee surgery and live with her mother, who she has not seen in eight years.”

The Northeast Division invites the community to attend this retirement celebration cookout and fundraiser, as a celebration of Banuelos’ service and as a vehicle to raise some money to help with her surgery, organizers say.

Lunch starts at 11 a.m. a $5 donation is requested. Not a bad deal considering the menu: brisket and chicken tacos, rice, beans, tea and dessert. Dine with the fuzz or carry out.
