Loads of us Lake Highlands dwellers find Flag Pole Hill to be a fine if distant vantage point from which to enjoy Fair Park firework shows. I used to post up there every Independence Day. This year, the fireworks are set to begin at 9:30 p.m.

However, a visit to Fair Park might be worth the trip this year, because the new Summer Adventures — where you can ride the midway, visit the museums and roam the Fair Park grounds — is offering a family day for $89 and will stay open late, until 10 p.m. July 4.

The Cotton Bowl festivities start at 4:30 and are free on a first-come first-serve basis. See the full schedule after the jump.

Prefer to stay in Lake Highlands? We’ll see you at the Flag Pole.
