Wine-bottles-on-shelf.jpgIt didn’t take long for someone to snatch up the White Rock area restaurant space following the closing of Cafe Lago.

Jennifer Rodriguez, an attorney with longtime aspirations to open a wine garden, signed the lease last weekend and plans to open Urban Vines Wine Bistro in the 9219 Garland Road venue.

“I love the wine-bar concept. I enjoy going to [wine bars] and I’ve always thought, ‘one day I’d like to do that.’ This was the ideal location,” she says. “After hearing about the opportunity, I thought, ‘it’s now or never’. It all happened very fast.”

As for food, Rodriguez plans to sub-lease the kitchen to two women who have been running a catering business called Honeysuckle Southern Eats.

They wanted to lease the space, Rodriguez says, but she secured it first. The landlord suggested they talk to one another. Rodriguez decided it couldn’t hurt to offer the kitchen to the experienced duo, Rodriguez says, so they came up with the trial partnership.

Imagine a cohabitation in the Good 2 Go Taco-Cultivar Coffee vein.

Rodriguez is working on securing permits and hopes to open in May.
