Jerry Allen runs uncontested for City Council District 10

city hallThe candidates are locked in. And some areas of Dallas will elect a new City Council representative. Not us.

District 10 representative Jerry Allen will run uncontested. Lake Highlands with its overwhelming amounts of apartments and payday lenders isn’t an easy district to represent. Allen during his two terms has worked to improve both situations. The two are indirectly related.

Not everyone agrees with his approach to dealing with high crime, low rent, code violating apartments — which involves improving rather than destroying the homes — but no one apparently disagrees enough to fight him.

Who wants to run for City Council when it only pays $37,500/year and requires 50-60 hour work weeks. Once taxes are paid on that “salary”, there would not be enough left over to pay for a mortgage on any home in LH. Not to mention having to spend whatever a City Council campaign costs. No thanks.

I would like to see someone run against him and win but maybe the real issue is enough of the District 10 voters actually vote for him because they think he is doing a good job or just don’t care and vote for him anyway. All of the people complaining are not actually the majority of the voters or we would have had a new councilman last time around! Maybe the people complaining should look at what they are wanting to change, maybe that is not what the majority actually wants. I would just like a city councilman that actually gets the stuff done that I was promised, one of the things is looking like it is about to have work started on, we shall see.

For some reason, every time someone runs against him, they lose. So I bet everyone was/is like w-f. Am sure he’s not the only one on city council that doesn’t bother to listen to their constituents. Not a fan. Is this the last time that he can run? Hope so.

    Agreed.
I’m glad he is taking on the unsavory parts of District 10, but there are some policies I’d like to know more about.  After the Mary Suhm/drilling in city parks debacle, I sent Allen a msg through the Dist 10 website to find out what side of the fence he fell on (I’m about 99% sure he sided with Suhm) and wanted to explanation.
I have yet to hear back from him.   I wish somebody like Angela Hunt would represent us, as I feel she is willing to go confront people when her constituency is wronged.

Too bad.  He’s also pro toll road and pro fracking.
