One of Texas’ fastest female utra-runners hails from the White Rock area. Nicole Studer won the Huntsville Rocky Raccoon 100-Mile, possibly the state’s most popular ultra running event.

An ultra marathon refers to anything longer than the 26.2 miles that is a regular marathon, and they are typically run on dirt trails. Studer finished the race in just under 17 hours, a banner time for a first-time 100-mile runner. (She finished the Houston Marathon in less than 3 hours in January). Today, she says, she is pretty sore. She thinks it will take “a few days to feel recovered”.

Side note: Studer and husband Eric are doggie foster parents for Metroplex Mutts and if you ever attend an adoption event around here, you’ll likely meet one of them. I recently adopted a dog from them. That dog is a heck of a runner.

The second place female, Shaheen Sattar — who trailed Studer by a little over an hour (that’s actually a close race in a 100 miler) — also is from our area, as is the fourth-place female Francesca Bissman.

Lake Highlands resident Nick Polito finished the 100-mile race in about 20 hours. David Renfro, also from the ‘hood, finished in about 22 hours. For perspective, those able to finish the race in less than 24 hours received a special award (because like one percent of humanity could do it) and the official cutoff time for officially finishing the race was 30 hours.

The simultaneous 50-mile Rocky Raccoon race also had several participants from White Rock Running Co-op and Dallas Running Club:

Jose Lopez (placed third overall in the 50 mile race), Mark Olateau, Steve Griffin, Claudia Zulejkic, Novle Rogers, Libby Jones, Lesley Larkin Jones, Jennifer Kimble, Jacqueline Smith and Chandler Feldman (her brother in law and wife, Ian Feldman and Angela Gohike flew in from Arizona to conquer the 50 and 100 milers, respectively).

Here are the total results.
