Lake Highlands resident Susan Russell is at the bedside of her sister this morning – Barbara Towne Holdsworth was one of the bystanders shot by the gunman in the Texas A&M area shooting Monday.

Barbara had been in College Station to move her daughter, Sarah, in at the university. That’s when police say Constable Brian Bachmann approached a house two blocks from campus to serve a warrant, and the gunman opened fire with an automatic weapon. Bachmann apparently died instantly. The shooter was killed by police.

Barbara’s wounds are serious. She was hit twice, and one bullet shattered, puncturing her lung. She is in critical but stable condition, and doctors expect a lengthy recovery.

Susan raced to Barbara’s side from vacation and says she covets prayers for her sister and her family. The girls grew up in Dallas together, both graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School, and are, frankly, more accustomed to being the givers of comfort and care than the recipients.

Susan is an active LH volunteer and dedicated member of Lake Highlands Women’s League, and daughter Michelle Russell Johnston is a beloved Young Life volunteer to many LH students.
