We’re becoming somewhat accustomed to these notices, but be aware that Dallas City Hall reports they’ll be spraying to kill mosquitoes tonight due to the danger of West Nile virus.

Their trucks will begin August 13 at 10pm spraying on streets bounded on the north by LBJ Freeway, on the west by Central Expressway and Abrams Road, on the south by Royal Lane and Walnut Hill, and on the east by Plano Road. They may continue as late as the wee hours of Wednesday morning.

Residents are advised to avoid the trucks (the one that came spraying down my street a few weeks ago had a bright yellow light rotating on the roof) and remain indoors with the windows up until the truck is passed and the spray no longer visible.

It bears reminding that we should avoid outdoor activity at dusk and dark when the little buggers like to bite, but if we do choose to water our yard or barbecue with our neighbors at that time, we should wear long sleeves and pants and/or apply mosquito repellant with abandon. And eye every container in your yard with suspicion – if it holds water it grows mosquitoes. Stagnant water is the enemy – even just a watering can or toy dump truck full.
