You can drop off recyclables, pick up worm wine, and take classes on how to be more green all in one location. The Dallas Eco-Op, brainchild of Heather Rinaldi, is an eco-friendly co-operative (pun intended) currently comprised of eight organizations ranging from the Texas Worm Ranch to the law offices of Bruce E. Bagelman, former owner of Green Spot Market and Fuels.
Though its building has been well broken-in by the organizations that utilize it, the Eco-Op itself is still working to find steady ground. After opening in February, it is almost ready to hold classes and educational events later this year.
Rather than a business, the Eco-Op is a “locale and an incubator for sustainable and like-minded businesses,” says Steve Clary of the Texas Worm Ranch. By sharing a space in LH, start-ups and small organizations can save on infrastructure costs. Shared marketing and resources can also allow the organizations easier growth.
