If you check out the Big 12 Conference website today expecting to check the standings for your favorite college football team or look up a time for one of Saturday’s games, you may be surprised to find Lake Highland’s own Carlie Davis featured front and center. Or maybe you won’t be surprised. Carlie was team captain and defensive stalwart for the Lady Wildcat soccer team long before she hit the Baylor campus in 2009.

In the Big 12 article, her coach Marci Jobson talks about Carlie’s drive to earn playing time as a freshman and her selfless attitude toward her teammates. By her sophomore year, Carlie was anchoring the defense and leading her team to 11 shutouts, tying a Baylor record. She’s been chosen for the Academic All-Big 12 first team and the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll, and she’s just beginning her junior year.

The work Carlie is proudest of, though, has been done off the field.  She recently visited Kenya with some teammates, building houses and offering soccer clinics (she’s shown on the left in this photo with teammate Kathryn Ludlow). Though the work was tough, Carlie adopted the attitude “I need Africa more than Africa needs me.” Click here to read Lindsay Cash’s article, with great quotes of gushing praise from Carlie’s coach and teammates.
