Bishop Lynch families gathered Thursday for a prayer service. Image from TV 33 broadcast.

More than 600 people filled the auditorium at Bishop Lynch yesterday to remember Alley Alexandrou and Daniel Carey, who died in a car accident Wednesday (we have an earlier report on the East Dallas/Lakewood blog).

According to longtime BL president Edward Leyden, Alexandrou’s family — parents, siblings, grandparents — “found the courage and fortitude” to attend the event.

A little more information has surfaced about the reason for the teenagers’ drive along I-45 in Huntsville: Principal Evelyn Grubbs told The 33 News that Alexandrou was returning from a mission trip in Costa Rica where she had been volunteering with horses and kids, two things she loved. Daniel had driven to Houston to pick her up from the airport and she was driving his car home.

We still don’t know why she lost control of the truck.

Six counselors will be available to meet with students, parents and faculty today and next week at the school.

Carey’s rosary will be held Sunday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Ferndale and Walnut Hill, in Lake Highlands from 3-4 with reception immediately following.

His funeral will be a St. Patrick Monday at 10 a.m. Sparkman/Crane is handling arrangements 214.327.8291.

We will update with Carey’s arrangements when we get them. The BL Alumni association is also regularly  posting information on Facebook.
