Online registration is now open for the 2011 Wildcat Club ‘Cat Classic golf tournament, and this year’s event will be very special – it is dedicated to the memory of Tom Lueder. Tom was the former Wildcat Club board member and dad of LH wrestlers Lee (’12) and Blake (’13) who recently lost his courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

“Tom was a wonderful member of our community and a devoted father,” said Mary Barnes, who’s co-chairing the tournament with husband, Chris, and friends Molly and Scott Taylor. “We are proud to honor his memory and commitment to Lake Highlands and the Wildcat Club.”

Money raised will fund athletic programs at LHHS, LHFC, LHJH and Forest Meadow and will be given in college scholarships to deserving graduating seniors. Since 1987, the Wildcat Club has raised more than $1 million, and this year alone they awarded $19,750 in scholarships and distributed $75,000 to school sports teams in LH.

Again this year, the Wildcat golf team will be on hand to hit your tee shot for a donation to the club. Prizes will be given for top scorers, longest drive and closest to the pin.

“Participation in the tournament, either as a sponsor or a golfer, will help build stronger athletic programs through youth training and fitness,” Mary told me. “We work to support the coaches and athletes of all sports in their quest to build character and be competitive.”

The Tom Lueder Memorial Cat Classic will be held Tuesday, June 7 at Canyon Creek Country Club. Box lunches will be provided prior to the 1:30 pm shotgun start, and dinner and awards will be given following play. You can go online here to register.
