The new ACT musical, Breaking Up Is Hard To Do, takes the best parts of the TV show Glee – adorable teens who break into song while dancing and dating and having a little fun – and pulls them back into the 1960s and the timeless music of Neil Sedaka. You can view my photo slideshow below.
ACT, Artists of Christian Talent, is comprised of youth from Lake Highlands United Methodist Church and their friends from the LH community who participate in a Broadway-style musical produced by the church each year. The show is set in the Catskill Mountains in 1960, where Sedaka got his start, and features classics such as “Calendar Girl,” “Where The Boys Are,” “Love Will Keep Us Together,” “Laughter in the Rain” and, of course, “Breaking Up Is Hard To Do.” You’ll enjoy the bright costumes and surprising young talent in this stroll down memory lane.
The cast and crew include more than 50 LH students, including standouts Thomas Mullins, Daniel Fernandez, Andrew Fifer, Ginny Laurin, Emily Siegers, Courtney Wetzel, Kate Gavigan, Peyton Williams, Alex Moser, Will Fifer, Kirk Shannon, Evan Conwell, Leila Stroud, Brice Paterik, Hannah Willard, Chandler McAlister and Katherine McCoy. The show is directed by Kent Williams, seasoned Dallas theater professional, and LHHS grad Hannah Payne directs the music. Former Highlandette Director Shannon Hardy Carlton returned as choreographer.
The show opens this Thursday night at 7:30 pm and continues Feb. 18, 20, 25 and 26. There’s no show Saturday Feb. 19 (the kids have a school dance) and the Feb. 20 show is a Sunday matinee at 2 pm. Tickets are available by emailing Tammy Williams or calling her at 469.688.8241.
