Friday night basketball at Lake Highlands High School was impressive as the Wildcats handily routed Richardson High, 84-65.
The Wildcats led by as many as 22 in the fourth quarter after being up by as few as three late in the third. The 25-11 final period, led by Taylor Stell, 29 points, and Trey Bingham, 20 points, helped the Wildcats polish off yet another District 9-5A opponent.
“I am very please with this win,” Rob Wylie, Wildcats head coach said. “To get these back-to-back with the win against Skyline, it’s really good for us. Tonight was a good win.”
It didn’t take long for the Wildcats fans to get fired up as Binham made a strong baseline move, faked a pass to the paint and then went up for the basket to put Lake Highlands up 10-5.
Moments later, Stell grabbed a rebound and hit Bingham in stride on a full-court pass. With nobody between him and the basket, Bingham went up for the two-hand jam and drew a fould from behind.

The Wildcat faithful never turned the noise down from then on.
Stell was a beast on the boards, rising higher than anybody for offensive and defensive rebounds. The second half was mostly Stell, Tony Pikes, Luke Coughlin and James Lonergan keeping the Eagles at bay.
Torrence Carr did have an explosive third quarter and poured in 21 points, but the Lake Highlands defense clamped down in the fourth for the win.
Lake Highlands will host Samuell at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the final game of a three-game home stretch. The Wildcats are still tied with Jesuit for second place in district play.
