The Big Stick goes to the players who give big hits.

That’s right. Every week Scott Smith, Lake Highlands head coach, and the Wildcats coaching staff awards “The Big Stick” to the player with the biggest hit in the game the previous week.

During the Wildcats 45-14 win against W.T. White, 6-foot 245 lb. senior center Scott Hanks put a lick on a Longhorns player that drew a late hit flag. But Smith says it wasn’t a late hit.

“We want our kids to understand that football is a physical game,” Smith said. “So this is a little incentive to play that physically.”

Either way, Hanks received “The Big Stick” for his big hit this week.

Other winners include but are not limited to:

Anthony Harris, Zack Knickman, Derek Floyd and Dana Taylor.
