With a 62-0 win Friday night against Sunset, the Lake Highlands Wildcats move into a two-way tie for first place with reigning District 9-5A champion Skyline, who beat Jesuit 43-24.

The Wildcats(4-2, 3-0) and Red Raiders (4-2, 3-0) are undefeated in district with Richardson (5-1, 2-1) and Jesuit(3-3, 2-1) filling in the next two spots.

The Wildcats will play Berkner (2-4, 1-2) Friday night in the Battle of the Boneyard, but for now let’s look deeper into last week’s game against Sunset.

  • The Wildcats defense a) allowed only 58 offensive yards b) allowed only three first downs c) never let Sunset past the Bisons’ 41-yard line d) allowed ZERO points. It’s the first shutout since Nov. 2009 in a 52-0 win against Molina. Lake Highlands also shutout Sunset last year 68-0.
  • Desmond Roland’s three touchdowns against Sunset is second in the area with 17 touchdowns on the ground, and leads the area in yards per carry of backs with at least 100 carries. He’s currently rushing at a 9.14 ypc clip, and folks he could have very well padded those stats but did not play in the second half.
  • Roland’s seven carries for 159 yards gave him a 22.29 ypc. He’s thanking he’s offensive line for those numbers.
  • Every running back that had a touchdown, had at least two touchdowns. Roland (3), DeVonte Sunwenghan (2), Derrick Anderson (2), Kaseem Ayodele (2).
  • Michael Ketchmark is still completing 64-percent of his passes. Backup Trent Jones is at 89-percent on the season.
  • The Wildcats defense forced seven fumbles and recovered three.
