LHHS choir director Michael O'Hern will welcome former A Cappella members at a Homecoming reception and concert today

Homecoming in Lake Highlands is a whirlwind of activities centered around the big football game tonight, but one Homecoming tradition you may not have heard about continues on, binding LHHS students and former Wildcats from years – sometimes decades – gone by.

The LHHS A Cappella Choir will host a reception and concert this afternoon, welcoming Wildcat alums who were A Cappella choir members. They’ll laugh and sing (alums are encouraged to join in) and they’ll take pictures and enjoy refreshments. But the biggest draw today will be legendary choir director, Michael O’Hern. “MOH” as students and parents have been calling him for years, was diagnosed with a brain tumor as the school year began in 2008. His students have been following the ups and downs of his progress since, including a recent recurrence that required another surgery in September.

As of this week, MOH’s pathology reports have come back clear, and he credits the “unceasing prayers of family and friends” for that. He says he can’t wait to get back and hear the singing today. The A Cappella Choir Homecoming reception and concert will be held today at 4:30 pm in the choir room at LHHS.
