Lake Highlands (6-2, 5-0) vs. Skyline (6-2, 5-0), at The Boneyard at 7:30 p.m.

Okay, typically I go way too deep with these things. So I’m going to keep this pretty short and sweet, while still allowing your sports brain to grow. I’m always looking out for my readers.

Big game tonight. Huge implications. And both teams have the exact same records. (See bold text above).

If Lake Highlands wins, they knock of the juggernaut District 9-5A Champions in Skyline, and  a chance to earn the 2010 District 9-5A Championship if they beat Richardson next week.

So there is another level to the mountain, but tonight is certainly the steepest part.

Skyline has already knocked off Berkner, Richardson and Jesuit.

They have done it all with quarterback DeVante Kincaide at the helm.

Kincaide has 966 passing yards and 10 touchdowns with five of those going to Paul Dawson who has 23 grabs from 266 yards. Tavondre Rabon also has 266 yards, but Rashard Samples leads the team with 349 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

Expect them to test the Wildcats early and often in the air throughout the night. With David Green on the sideline with a knee injury, Ryan Dupree is stepping in across the field from Jalen Broussard. Green was a lock-down corner on anybody who tried to go deep.

Wildcats head coach Scott Smith thinks Dupree “can be” one of the best athletes on the field. He’ll have his shot tonight against the Red Raiders receivers.

Skyline also moves the ball on the ground with two running backs in Joshua Watkins who has 68 carries, 425 yards and five TD’s. Sammy Hill has 58 carries, 250 yards and two touchdowns. Skyline has five players on the team with at least two rushing touchdowns. So when they get near the goal-line, they could do anything.

The Skyline defense is stingy. They have given up only 9.6 points per game in District 9-5A play. The Red Raiders are fourth in the area in giving up yards per game at 263, Lake Highlands gives up 330 ypg for a comparison. Skyline’s defense is third in the area in rushing yards per game at 113 ypg. Lake Highlands is sixth in the area in running the ball at 270 ypg. Something’s gotta give, which will it be?

Desmond Roland sat out last week against Jesuit after coming up lame against Berkner the week before. DeVonte Sunwenghan went off  in his place for 325 all purpose yards. Lake Highlands knows it has two guys who can produce offensively, and they will lean heavily on them tonight.

But, Reginald Samples was there for the Berkner game. His scouting staff has been at every single Lake Highlands game this season. They know what the Wildcats do. It will come down to execution tonight.

So that’s the quick version. It should be a rowdy crowd atmosphere tonight at The Boneyard.
