We’re back from a two-week hiatus, and in this week’s podcast, the Lake Highlands Plaza at Walnut Hill and Audelia is the hottest topic.

Is that intersection the center of Lake Highlands? Some of our blog commenters think so, but others argue that the high school is the center. Neighborhood blogger Carol Toler lays out the case for the Town Center being a future “center”, while neighborhood columnist Ellen Raff argues that, right now, the Skillman-Abrams intersection with SuperTarget, Tom Thumb and Fiesta on three corners may get the most retail and vehicle action.

If the Walnut Hill-Audelia intersection is the center, then the news that The Retail Connection is no longer interested in purchasing Lake Highlands Plaza may not bode well for its future. It’s not all bad news at Lake Highlands Plaza, however — mom-and-pop retailer T. Hee Greetings just announced plans to open a second location.

Stay tuned to the end for our shameless plugs: a raffle (benefiting the LHHS Wranglers) that could get you a front row parking spot for all home varsity games, plus passes for eight people to all RISD athletic events (except varsity football); a car wash and garage sale on Saturday (benefiting the LHHS Highlandettes); and our neighborhood’s budget town hall meeting tomorrow night, where the future of Lake Highlands North Recreation Center may be the most common question.
