Festival of Independent Theaters at Bath House Cultural Center — from the whimsical recount of “Alice in Wonderland” to the musical styles of cabaret performer Denise Lee, there’s something for everyone

Sunday:

If paying $50 to run 9.1 miles in glaring summer sun sounds good to you, the Too Hot to Handle 15k is Sunday. Race day registration begins at 6:30 a.m. Before you balk, know this: Runners World voted this race, which begins at Norbuck Park at 7:30 a.m., “best SWAG”— entrants get goodies that include a hat and sleeveless tech shirt. There’s also a 5k option, and proceeds benefit PAL, a nonprofit that helps furry four-footed runners.

Though not in LH, this free event is worth a driving a few miles east: The Basically Beethoven Festival features concerts every Sunday afternoon; doors open at 2:00 for a Rising Star recital at 2:30 followed by the feature performance at 3:00. Both performances showcase some of the most prominent musicians from the state of Texas with members of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Ft. Worth Symphony, and Dallas Opera Orchestra performing chamber music repertoire. Best of all, beside the FREE part, that is, the shows are performed INSIDE the air-conditioned Grand Hall of the Texas Discovery Gardens.
