Wildcat students Kevin Ndukwe and Yareli Rubio are back in LH after attending the Texas Leadership Forum in Washington, D.C. They were chosen to participate in the program after being recommended by their teachers to learn about the workings of the government and creation of pubic policy.

U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions hosted the students and welcomed them to the nation’s capital. “The Texas Leadership Forum is about engaging young minds to consider, challenge, and thoughtfully articulate the public policy debates facing our government as they develop their leadership skills for service in the future,” stated Sessions, who is the honorary chair of TLF. “These students have proven their commitment to learning and contributing to their communities, and the opportunity to see Washington firsthand will aide them in future goals of civic responsibility and leadership.”

While there, students heard from several Washington leaders, including Congressman Greg Walden from Oregon, Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart of Florida, and former FBI Director Judge William S. Sessions. They also enjoyed educational tours and meetings at the White House, the Pentagon, the Drug Enforcement Agency, INTERPOL, and the Taiwanese Embassy. TLF is a program of the Today Foundation.

“The business tools and leadership skills they have developed will serve them well in their future educational and professional goals,” Sessions said. “I look forward to hearing of their continued success.”
