I wanted to clarify something I wrote last week about Project Reconnect, the program in place to oversee the housing of formerly incarcerated people at Woodside Condominiums. In case you haven’t been studying the Back Talk blog daily (let me remind you that you really should!), it was:

… the 20 formerly incarcerated people who are being interviewed for places at the Woodside Condominiums are singles, mostly men, between the ages of 51 and 65 years. One of the caseworkers for Project Reconnect … said that these are not generally these young gang bangers that many of us might imagine. “They are old; they’re tired; they are not tryin’ to get into any more trouble,” the caseworker says.

Ashley Gomez, with the Moss Haven Moms, who has been doing her homework when it comes to the myriad issues surrounding Permanent Supportive Housing, brought it to my attention that this is a little unclear, and that under HUD rules, PSH clients do not have to fall into a particular age group or marital/family status. True. To clarify: I was referring to the paroled people who are right now under consideration for the first available spots at Woodside Condominiums, based on what I learned during an interview for an upcoming article. In the future, the Project Reconnect clients could be any age over 18, they could be males or females, and they might have children.
