The Richardson Council of PTAs will team up with the League of Women Voters tonight to host a Candidate Forum for the RISD Board of Trustees. Three seats on the board are on the May 8 ballot – all three of them contested for the first time in years.

Seven school board members serve three-year terms and are elected at large, representing the entire district and not a specific region. If you’re a little confused about who’s running, join the club. For the Place 3 seat formerly held by LH resident David Tyson, Darryl Smyers, Kris Oliver and William Gordon are on the ballot, but Gordon dropped out and Elaine Evans Johnson filed to run as a write in candidate. In Place 4, veteran Lanet Greenhaw is up for re-election but Jennifer Najera Hague filed as her opponent (the latest word is that she has suspended her campaign, but it’s too late to have her name removed from the ballot). Karen Holburn seeks to be re-elected in Place 5 and is being challenged by Raj Chari.
