Move over March Madness. There’s another national competition going on, and two RISD students are up for the challenge. Kassidy Testut from Richardson High and Lake Highlands senior Marria Nakhoda created artwork for the PTA Reflections contest and have been chosen to advance to the national level.

Marria’s work, “Body of Dance” shown here, and Kassidy’s film, “Beauty is Life,” were two of 85 entries sent to state from RISD. A remarkable 35 RISD students received some level of recognition at state from the 2,200 entries received. Of those, only these two will advance to nationals.

Students of all ages are encouraged to enter the annual Reflections contest in any of the six categories – dance, film, music, literature, photography and visual arts. From the outstanding state competitors, four RISD students were selected to have their artwork displayed around downtown Austin. The artwork of Cole Williams from White Rock Elementary, Zain Walker from West Junior High, Alexandria Zupa from RHS and Kevin Kong from Berkner will be displayed at the Texas Education Agency Building and/or the Texas Commission on the Arts.

Congratulations students, oh and Marria & Kassidy, I have both of you in my bracket.
