The Lake Highlands girls gymnastics team won district by an astounding margin Tuesday evening. In a sport measured by tenths, LH won with a team score of 114.575 over Highland Park’s 105.850.

Sarie Morrison led the team by winning the all-around for the third year in a row in addition to winning bars and beam. Morrison tied teammate Hannah Van Meter for first on vault and LH’s Kristen DeCosta won floor.

Co-captains Morrison and Van Meter took first and second in the all-around, with Morrison scoring 38.950 to Van Meter’s 38.075. DeCosta was fourth with 37.550 in her first meet to compete in all events this season after being released from injury.

"Caitlin Antkowski, Lauren Patterson, Kelsey Kinney and Olivia Lewis are key teammates, challenging and assisting the team to victory," coach Addi Ledford said. "Their hard work continues to pay off."

LH advances to the regional meet, March 30-31 at Highland Park. This will be the last opportunity to cheer on the Wildcat gymnasts in an area meet. The state meet is April 14-18 in Houston.

"It’s been a dicey year with injuries," Ledford said. "So we are praying for continued health for the team."
