Restaurant talk: Burger Spot in Lake Highlands

There is a lot of buzz in Lake Highlands surrounding the new burger joint that opened up this week, Burger Spot. After eating at the restaurant last night with my mother, Cindy, and girlfriend, Melanie, we all agreed that the place definitely lives up to the talk.

If you have not heard anything about it, the restaurant is on Skillman, between El Fenix, and the Tom Thumb. The first thing we noticed about the inside was the mural covering one of the walls. Painted was a view of Wildcat-Ram Stadium from the home parking lot, complete with the gigantic press box and all. Also pictured was grassy and flowered Flag Pole Hill. The restaurant is still very early in its development—the menu board has not yet been hung on the wall, but we were told that it will soon be up.

Burger Spot serves more than just burgers, even though we all ordered them.

They also have salads, beef tenderloin and chicken k-bobs, and chicken sandwiches. We ordered the combination French fry sampler, which was filled with their purple potato chips and original, Cajun, and sweet potato fries. These fries were thinly cut and delicious, although we could not tell much difference between the original and Cajun styles. The table agreed that the sweet potato reigned supreme over the others in the basket.

Something very unique about Burger Spot is that while you wait for your food, you are brought a fresh batch of popcorn to munch on. This was unexpected, but definitely enjoyed. Everybody loved what they ordered: my stuffed cheddar burger, my mom’s blue cheese bacon burger, and Melanie’s burger spots, (pictured) which are their take on hamburger “sliders”. The joint had two televisions turned on to CNN, but I can see the place turning on a football game and many neighborhood residents showing up to eat burgers and catch the game. The average hamburger here is between $6 and$7, and are well worth the money.

This Friday-Sunday only, to celebrate the NBA All Star Game, from 7 p.m. ‘til close, all burgers and salads will be 20% off. Also, high schoolers and college students will get their own day where they will receive special discounts as long as they bring their student ID (we’ll give you more on that as we get it).

We were told to become fans of the restaurant on facebook, where they will provide promotions daily.

Next time I feel like eating a hamburger and fries, I will definitely stay close to home and go back to the Burger Spot.

I pass right by this place every day on my way home from work and I’ve been meaning to check it out. Maybe I’ll swing by there today for that 20 percent discount–thanks for the info!

$9.46 for a cheeseburger, fries and drink. Ouch!

Just ate there for lunch today! Great service, food was terrific and if you go – don’t miss the funnel cake fries (dessert). So delicious! My kids loved their corn dog bites and the regular, thin fries are perfectly seasoned. The family who opened this is from a long line of success – Celebrity Bakery fame – so everything is very fresh! So glad to have them in the ‘hood!

We went Sunday. Enjoyed the food, but enjoyed the owners more. Very nice folks and I certainly wish them the best.
Definitely a little pricey, but the burger was good (would love a buffalo option).

Glad to have the Burger Spot open now to replace Coach’s Burgers, which is definitely closed (for lease signs in the window). We’ll have to give it a try soon. Can’t have too many good burger joints around.

    +1 on the buffalo option.

Regarding prices at Burger Spot – I will pay a little more for my food when it is a locally owned establishment. It is worth spending a little more to keep the money in Lake Highlands and East Dallas.

Tried the Burger Spot this past weekend and I really wanted to like it but the burgers weren’t seasoned and they were dry. The french fries were nothing special. I’m sure we will try a second time because we try to support LH businesses but I think I’ll have to go back to JG’s and Jakes.

Tried Burger Spot last night and although the food is good – no better than Coach’s or Jake’s – the service is terrible. They have alot of kinks to work out in their service and order delivery – waited 25 minutes for burgers/fries, and watched while 3 tables seated after we came in rec’d their orders. When we inquired about our order we were given a smart aleck response by the girl working the “order up” window. The owner or manager that was standing there was quick to apologize on her behalf, but they sure have alot of work to do to make a regular eating place for me and my family – especially during busy times such as Friday nights and game nights.

I tried Burger Spot and wanted to like it too. I got take out and loved the atmosphere of the place while I waited, but found my burger to be way too undercooked when I got home.
