Yesterday, the Lady Wildcats faced St. Thomas Aquinas from Florida at the Red Bull Nolan Soccer Showcase, playing in TCU’s indoor football facility. The makeshift soccer field was many yards short in length and width, but our girls were good-natured and flexible and they came away with the win.

“It wasn’t a very pretty game and we are still dealing with girls unable to play, but we managed to pull out a win with less than a minute left, said coach Misty Benson. “Senior Michal Ann Starr made a pass to junior Avery Voigt, who came up from the defensive line to dribble past her opponent and send her shot across the field. The ball got past the keeper, catching the upper 90 of the net. Quite a nice shot and goal.”

The girls will take on Keller and Plano East tomorrow, Saturday.

Meanwhile, the boys may (or may not) face Marcus at Jesuit tomorrow at 4 pm. Final decisions will be made Saturday morning based on weather challenges and tournament dropouts. Sadly, even if we play and win, there’ll be no playoffs. The LH/Jesuit rivalry will have to be resolved another day. Until then, enjoy Steve Donica’s photo of junior captain Emmet Kumeh going for a header against Mesquite Horn.
