When the Lady Wildcats assembled their team and began play in January, they brought together three players with something in common – winning championships in the December 2009 Disney Soccer Showcase. The Disney tournament, held on fields near Disneyworld in Orlando, is a pentacle of club soccer, attracting 262 top U.S. teams, 5200 players, and 800 NCAA college coaches and scouts each year.

Sophomore Brinkley Field of Solar Red 94, sophomore Glory Williams of Sting 95, and freshman Kelsey Munoz of Solar 95 were big contributors to their club team’s win of their division championship. Brinkley’s team returned to earn their second-straight first-place title; Glory was one of 11 out of 1100 players in her age group named to the All-Event Team; and Kelsey anchored a defense that allowed only two goals in their championship series.

While several teams in the Cats’ 9 5-A district have young players on their varsity roster, few have underclassmen making contributions as significant or bringing soccer pedigrees as strong as these girls. Next, we hope these girls will translate their 2009 Disney titles into 2010 gold for the Cats.
