It’s not just about making baskets, but making things better for others with the LH girls basketball team.
The team recently baked and delivered cookies and other goodies to a couple of area fire stations, No. 3 and No. 57.
"They do so much to keep our community safe and we wanted to say thank you and spread some holiday cheer," coach Holly Mulligan said. "The firefighters were so appreciative. They gave us a tour of the station, talked to the girls about basketball and our team, and let us take pictures."
The Lady Wildcats also adopted an angel from the Salvation Army Tree at Northpark Mall. This particular "angel" was a 7-year-old girl who needed toys for Christmas.
"The girls rounded up money amongst themselves, adopted the angel, and enjoyed shopping for her and delivering the presents," Mulligan said. "It was a great way for them to give back to our wonderful community."
Senior guard Samantha Couch said after visiting the firefighters, she and the other players wanted to do more.
"I was thinking of ways to give back to the community, because all the girls really enjoyed bringing cookies to the firefighters. So I remembered Project Angel Tree since I’d done it before," Couch said.
"After practice Monday, the team drove to Northpark Mall and delivered the gifts to the Salvation Army. Our goal for this year is to give back to the community before each home district game."
