The LH tennis team made it to the second round of the 5A Region II tournament in Tyler last weekend but could advance no further.
In Friday’s first round, LH defeated Copperas Cove, 10-4. LH won five of the seven doubles matches and quickly produced the necessary singles wins to capture the match.
The second round match was against The Woodlands, which also eliminated LH last year. LH came out of doubles play down 1-6 at Tyler Junior college and it wasn’t long before The Woodlands claimed a 10-1 win.
The Woodlands lost in the semifinals to eventual champion Klein, 10-7. Klein beat College Park in the final, 10-8.
"Maggie Duffy, Ana Lew, Nicole Rains and Alex Ziehm played extremely well in girls doubles throughout the tournament," LH coach Bob Williams said. "Ryan Berg and Maggie Duffy both played extremely well in singles, battling strong opponents."
LH finished 19-4 on the season, including an undefeated run through District 9-5A for the second year in a row. Williams said the team is thankful for the support of the parents, student body, faculty and staff this season and is ready for a successful individual season starting in January.
