Just got the updated expansion list from Sprouts, the natural food grocery store chain that has been touted as the leading candidate for the Town Center anchor — or, as we were told in April, "We hope it’s imminent. …" And Lake Highlands isn’t on it.
Instead, Sprouts will open stores in the Austin area and Cedar Hill later this year, and McKinney and the Austin area in 2010. I have a call in to Sprouts management to see what 2011 and 2012 may hold; I’ll update the blog when I hear something. I’m told the chain wants to add 10-15 stores in 2011 and is targeting northern California.
There’s an interesting trade magazine article that details Sprouts’ expansion: "The chain expects to have 42 stores open by the end of the year. The downturn in the economy — particularly in real estate — helped foster Sprouts’ growth."
