The postal service, which has been insisting that local post offices weren’t going to close, is insisting a little less harder today. It announced that it wants to close 11 in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and postal union officials and the Associated Press report that there are many more Dallas-area locations on the list of potential closures.

We have the postal service on record as saying the Northlake branch in Lake Highlands and the Belmont and Hillside Village substations in East Dallas are safe. We shall see. What has not gotten much attention is that the postal service has cut services in many post offices in this area – there hasn’t been any package pickup at the station at Greenville and Lovers, for example, since last fall.
