We told you about the cat slayings in the area last summer (and another) and  again recently in the Skillman-Lovers area. Our Far North Dallas editor Marlena Chavira-Medford has reported similar incidents in her coverage area — warning: it’s gruesome stuff. I’ve talked to police, and searched public record and they don’t have police reports on these apparent crimes.

Officer Shavo Vela at the Northeast police substation says she hasn’t seen any recent reports of this nature, despite a  TV piece  last week about a cat mutilation in Northeast Dallas. She suggests people might be dealing with Animal Services rather than police. One of the victims told Chavira-Medford that she didn’t report the slaying of her cat because she didn’t want the children hearing the gory details. It just seems to me that if you find an obviously intentionally severed body part of a domestic animal on your lawn, you should probably let police know what’s going on — who knows that the crimes won’t escalate. We’ll continue to follow any developments. Meanwhile, keep a close eye on your pets.
