Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe is a busy man presiding over a major college conference. But on Thursday nights this fall, you’ll most likely catch him watching Lake Highlands freshman football.

Beebe’s son, Patrick, will be a student and football player at the Freshman Center. Patrick played several positions at Forest Meadow Junior High, although he missed much of last season with a concussion.

Patrick inherited his father’s height and his love for sports. Patrick is 6-1, 175 and also plays basketball and a little golf. His father was a lineman in college and played rugby after his college days.

Even with his busy schedule, Beebe said he should be able to make it to Patrick’s football games this season.

"Most of them are Thursday nights," Beebe said. "The challenge is if he keeps playing, Friday nights could be tough. A lot of my travel during football season involves going onto campus the day before games to meet with presidents and athletic directors."

Beebe has lived in Lake Highlands since joining the league as a senior associate commissioner and chief operating officer in 2003. He was named commissioner two years ago. Beebe, who frequents the neighborhood’s MiCocina, says he loves living in Lake Highlands because "the people are tremendous."
