Richardson blogger Ed Cognoski seems floored by what he read on the DMN transportation blog concerning last week’s community meeting on the Lake Highlands DART Station. He quoted reporter Michael Lindenberger’s comment that Lake Highlanders "worry that if residents can walk so easily from their neighborhoods to the station, criminals from elsewhere can do the same thing in reverse just as easily."

"Let me get this straight," Cognoski responds. "Some people in Lake Highlands like the idea of light rail but want to make it so that only people who own cars can use it. Walking to and from the rail station will be discouraged. I suggest DART drop the idea of a Lake Highlands station altogether and use the money saved to put a station in a community that wants it. Win-win." He then requests that DART put the station in Richardson’s old downtown area.

Of course, some Lake Highlanders opposed to DART station access from a hike and bike trail near White Rock Trail are just fine with pedestrians walking to the station from a Walnut Hill access point.
