For fast and plentiful Thai or Chinese fare try Thai 2 Go.

I first heard about this spot when I interviewed Steve Pickett for our neighborhood celebrity Q&As — he told me it was one of his favorite new Lake Highlands, eateries, so naturally I had to check it out. I’m glad I did. The food rivals Tukta Thai — which has been my Thai default for years. I picked up the Pad Thai with chicken and spice, Yellow Noodle with shrimp, and an order of sesame chicken from the Chinese section of the menu. The flavors were bold — order extra spice if you like it spicy — and the noodles had just the right texture. I liked that they were generous with the proteins — chicken, shrimp and tofu. And after my family of four shared the three meals there was even leftovers (and we eat like pigs, no lie). My children, connoisseurs of sesame chicken, approved of the sweet poultry that included bright broccoli florets. Cooks prepared the food on the fly — I think I was in and out of the place in about seven minutes. They also deliver.

Before undergoing a remodeling job that turned the humble space into the clean, modern, three-table restaurant it is now, Thai 2 Go was simply an Asian grocery store, owner Steve Cochran tells me. They still have a few shelves of groceries for sale. It’s located at 9191 Forest Lane  near Greenville Ave. and opened from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. seven days a week. Meals are about $7-$9 each, with $1 egg rolls and $3-$6 appetizers.
