Lake Highlands High School hosted its annual Baccalaureate ceremony Sunday, providing graduates and their families an opportunity to pause and reflect on their years attending school in LH and the monumental changes in store for them as they enter college and beyond.
Much-beloved former principal, Dr. Bob Iden, returned to deliver the keynote address. “You are the millennial generation,” he told the Class of 2009, “connected as never before to family, friends, and coworkers around you. These wireless connections will multiply in the future, but be mindful of the importance of faith, hope, and love in your life. You can become lost if you don’t give them priority.” Dr. Iden took the kids on a walk down memory lane, recalling the recent visit of Tony Romo and Will Smith, Wildcat successes in sports, academics, and the arts, and the infamous Muffin Man incident mentioned on Conan O’Brien’s late night television show. He also shared his view that high school seniors aren’t too different from kindergartners – they are embarking on a big new journey in their life, and they enjoy having a little fun while doing it.
Dr. Bob encouraged the kids to spend time contemplating their futures. “As you leave to pursue your dreams, you will create the changes you seek for this world,” he told them. “Nurture your souls. To become fully human, you must reach out to others."
