Speaking of politics (which we’ve done quite a bit in recent days, whether about our neighborhood Council race, the Council elections overall, or the hotel referendum), an upcoming community forum will feature a discussion on the relationship between church and state led by Robin Lovin, Southern Methodist University ethics professor and former dean of SMU’s Perkins School of Theology — a name you might recognize from November’s cover story on neighborhood churches and religious institutions.
Most of us think of religion and politics in terms of the national political landscape, but does religion have anything to do with local politics? That’s one of the topics that Lovin will likely cover in Wednesday night’s 7 p.m. forum, along with questions concerning how involved Christians should be in government issues — and even whether they should be involved at all. The event will begin with a presentation by Lovin, and then invite audience members to ask questions. You’ll have to travel a bit outside of our neighborhood to get there, but if the topic interests you, it’s worth noting that Lovin is world renowned as a Christian ethicist, and one of his teaching specialties is religion and political thought.
