Last weekend, the regional track meet finally took place in Waco after Swine Flu delays. Earning the gold and qualifying for state in pole vault was Lake Highlands’ junior Isaac Grieder, who cleared 15′-6" on his first try for a new personal best and LHHS school record. If that name sounds familiar, you may recall that Isaac took second at the state wrestling championship earlier this year. That makes him the district and regional champion in two sports, an impressive accomplishment.

Also qualifying for state was the women’s 4×200 meter relay team comprised of Paige McCutcheon, Brianna Rayfield, Kristian Young, and Kaleesha Gilyard. Their second place showing qualified them to advance, and their third place finish in the 4×100 was impressive, though not enough to move them on (see the video here). In the “one to watch” category, sophomore David Green was fifth in the 200 meter dash against winner Marquise Goodwin from Rowlett High. Goodwin, who was recruited to run track for UT next year, has been the subject of much media coverage and is considered a special talent. Though he won’t advance to state, Green’s 22.25 against Goodwin’s 21.57 may be a sneak peek of exciting things to come. Green also plays football and soccer for LH.
