Last Thursday night 72-year-old Charles "Chuck" King was the victim of a hit-and-run accident that knocked him into the path of an 18-wheeler that struck and killed him. Yesterday Garland police arrested Tasha Volly Hayes, 18, who they believe was driving the 1995 Lexus that caused the accident.
They say the teenager probably stopped and then bolted once she saw the carnage she had caused, but she is reportedly cooperating now. King, a Lake Highlands resident, was a member of the Keller’s Rat Pack, a good-natured group of bikers often spotted at Keller’s Drive In on Northwest Highway. The pack plans to host a group ride from Keller’s to the funeral home on April 26, which would have been King’s 73rd birthday.
Judging by the comments following the original story, King was a friend to many and a well-loved member of our neighborhood who will be sorely missed.
