No need to go all the way to Vegas or Branson to see a great show – Lake Highlands’ own Espree pop singing ensemble hosts their annual spring event today and Saturday at 7:30 pm in the LHHS auditorium. Tickets are $5 for students and about $10 for adults (depending on where you sit) and are available at the door. And we have pictures — more on the show after the jump:
“Higher Love” is this year’s theme, with students handling everything from vocals to instruments to tech crew and sound. Lee Terry, 2004 LHHS grad and former Espree member, will handle lights. Lee graduated from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas with a degree in such things and now works his lighting magic in New York City, but he returns each year to help LH legend Michael O’Hern, LHHS choir director.
You’ll be glad to know MOH’s latest cancer screening was negative – looks like the aggressive treatment he’s received since September has done the trick. He thanks the kids, teachers, and parents for their prayers and support.
Junior Catherine French told me she thinks this year’s show will be a real crowd pleaser. “People used to seeing us in our black satins will enjoy seeing our costumes this year,” she said. “We’re going all out to make it a fun show. My favorite song is ‘At the Hop,’ because it’s upbeat and I love the ‘50s. Also, Carly Anthony and Blake Martin are great in ‘You’re the One that I Want’ from Grease.”
I snuck into the dress rehearsal and particularly liked the boys’ version of “Chantilly Lace” – look for senior Chase Bekarian singing The Big Bopper’s part, “Oh baby, that’s what I like!” Also participating are Alex Atalis, Rebecca Rutledge, Wilson Spreier, Dean Wooldridge, Tim Davis, Max Hearst, Steven Heger, Luke Moser, Whitney Sides, Patrick Thornton, Havilland Voss, Martin White, Megan Williams, Rachel Jones, and Luke Trowbridge. The entire group is very talented and fun to watch.
