Imagine my surprise to find a photo of our own Tori Mellinger, senior stud on the Wildcat Volleyball team, on the front page of this week’s Park Cities News. In their coverage of the Highland Park team’s participation in the Duncanville tournament they caught Tori at the ready, just about to block a Scot shot. My adorable niece Abby Carroll, whose photo also made the paper, plays for HP, which finished 7th in the tournament.

Lake Highlands prevailed in that game and many others over the weekend and were only the second team ever from DFW to win since the tourney began in 1976. All-Tournament honors went to seniors Angie Morgan and Kenzie Thompson, while Tournament MVP was awarded to Tori. Seniors Paige Benton, Christina Stroud, Kendall Kinney, Lauren Strubeck, Caroline Snively, Capri Sullivan, and Carly Dunklin also played well. Talented juniors Rachael Zreet, Christina Flanagan, and Caroline Henton made valuable contributions, and freshman Matalee Reed made a big splash, too. "The older girls have been very welcoming to Matalee and taken her under their wing," dad Rob Reed told me. "They are really a nice group of girls." Their opponents may not have thought they were so nice. Go Cats!
