Rumor debunked. A couple days ago I heard a rumor — one I really wanted to believe. The owner of a shop near Casa Linda told me Mark Cuban had an interest in the Casa Linda Theater — that he wanted to turn it into a theater similar to the Magnolia in Uptown. Wow, I thought, that would be exciting — and a super-newsworthy scoop to boot. But alas, I e-mailed Cuban (because he always answers) and he said there was no truth to the rumor. So why would someone get that idea? I talked to Clay Evens at S.C. Companies, owners of the Casa Linda Theater this morning and he corroborated that no, Cuban is not involved, but that Cuban did in fact look at the theater — only that was about 18 months ago.

Evans says he is considering bids from two separate (anonymous) potential tenants right now and that they should be able to let us know something soon. That’s a little less vague than the usual comment, which is just the “should-be-able-to-let-you-know-something-soon” part. But it still doesn’t help much!
