Yes, I am aware they haven’t really left. I get a report — via e-mail, a friend, family member or neighborhood newsletter, etcetera — of these dog-like carnivores popping up on the greenbelts of Old Lake Highlands, the shores of White Rock Lake or even on residential streets in East Dallas, Lake Highlands and Forest Hills. And of course there are the rare, and very sad, reports of family pets murdered by a coyote. There are also sad reports of murdered coyotes.

(Side note: I’ve lived near White Rock Lake for twenty-something years and unfortunately I’ve never ever seen a coyote. Be sure Back Talk readers will be the first to know when I do.)

No, the coyote hasn’t gone away. But coyote talk (always a hot topic once it gets going) might just liven up in the coming month — apparently spring is the season for baby coyotes to enter the world, and their daddies will be out searching for food. One expert says April, in particular “is pretty much the exact week that most female coyotes will give birth.” So by all means, keep your little roadrunners indoors at night, and report back to Back Talk with any unusual wildlife sightings.
