The Morning News reports this morning that RISD approved what is being described as "unusual midyear raises" for 59 school administrators, mainly principals, in a move designed to keep them from quitting or moving to other districts. Neighborhood resident Luke Davis, president of the school trustees, said: "It’s not a matter of losing principals, really. It’s a matter of keeping folks here and rewarding them." The overall pay boost will cost the district $344,000 during the pay cycle, with elementary principals receiving an 8.5% boost to an average salary of $83,381, while junior high principals received 4% raises and high school principals received 2%. This all comes on the heels of a 2.5% average raise for school administrators in June (teachers received average raises of 3.7% then).
